Teaching Artists Althea Jerome and Kathryn Lewis will be presenting a FREE 6 hour Professional Development this Saturday, February 9th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at E.E. Bass Cultural Arts Center for educators in Greenville Public School District; non-GAP educators can attend the workshop for $60. CEU credits are available for all interested participants for an additional $15 (checks made payable to Delta State University).
Althea Jerome and Kathryn Lewis have traveled all over the state of Mississippi to present their workshops and both have been formally trained as teaching artists by the Kennedy Center. Althea was recognized as the 2012 recipient of the Mississippi Governor’s Award for Arts in Education and Kathryn has been announced as a 2013 Governor’s Award recipient. Althea and Kathryn will present their workshop called Dream Big! that focuses on creating a thematic unit around civil rights movement using theatre, music, social studies and English/Language Arts. Teachers enrolled in the workshop will have the opportunity to experience a model lesson the day prior at their school site, where Althea and Kathryn will work directly with the students to present a lesson that aligns to the workshop they will exhibit the following day.
